If you are getting bored with your current landscaping, there are many changes you can make. Some changes would be expensive, while others will not cost you as much. One inexpensive thing you can do is to use stones in your landscaping in many ways. Below is some information about this so you can start making your yard look more beautiful.

Dress Up a Flower Bed

If you currently have a flower bed you can dress it up using stones. Use a variety of stones in different sizes and colors to make it look unique. Stones make a great edging that will keep grass and weeds from growing into the flower bed. Even if you currently have an edging, such as metal edging, you can place the stones around it.

If you do not currently have an edging, use a shovel to make a small trench around the perimeter of the flower bed. Place the stones that you chose in the trench and press them down enough into the soil to make them secure.

Make a Stone Pathway

You can use flat stones to make a pathway, such as to your flower bed or to another area of your yard. This is beneficial if it rains as you can walk on the stones instead of a wet yard. You can make this yourself, if you prefer. First, decide where you want to place the pathway and remove all vegetation. Apply an herbicide over the area once for two to three days to prevent weeds from growing.

Next, put approximately two inches of sand over the pathway, and then level the sand out with a rake, or you can drag something like a 2X4 over the sand. No matter what you use, you need to get the sand as level as you can. Place the stepping stones on the sand and space them approximately six to eight inches apart. All stepping stones should be level to make them easier to walk on. You can use a level as you go to do this.

When you are finished, you can place small pebbles in between the stones to give it a nice, clean look. The pebbles should be a little lower than the stones.
